Submersible pump (also immersed pump) also called electric submersible pump (ESP) is a pump that is operated in water and will suffer damage if operated in a state where there is no continuous water. This type of pump has a minimum height of water that can be pumped and must be met when working so that the lifetime of the pump is long. This type of pump is a centrifugal pump type. The centrifugal pump itself works in principle converting the kinetic energy (velocity) of a liquid into potential energy (dynamic) through a rotating impeller in a casing.
The working principle of this type of pump is different from the type of Jet Pump. If the pump I mentioned last worked by sucking water, the submersible type of pump works by pushing water to the surface.
Here are the advantages of submersible pump type:
- Low cost of treatment
- Not noisy, because it is in the well
- The pump has a natural coolant, because its position is submerged in water
- The pump system does not use a long drive shaft and bearing, so common problems on the surface pump (Jet Pump) such as bearing and shaft wear do not occur.
