Air compressors are designed to supply power to pneumatic tools widely found in garages, workshops and construction sites. 1. Location of the air compressor
- Locate a stable, flat working area for your air compressor.
- When the electricity is switched off, connect the power cord to the nearest grounded electrical socket.
2. Check the amount of oil
- Test the amount of oil in your air compressor.
- Piston-type portable air compressors have a gage near the engine of the compressor, but this can differ on some versions.
- Remove the oil cap and, if possible, apply oil to the label.
- Consult the manuals of your air compressor or owner’s manual for more detail on adding oil if the procedure is not obvious.
3. Check the drain valve
- Check that the exhaust valve is locked at the bottom of the air tank.
- You can achieve this by tightening the valve using an adjustable wrench.
4. Prepare the Air Tank
- Flip the power switch to the ON position and allow the air compressor to operate.
- Control the air gage to make sure the compressor is turned off as it exceeds the pressure potential of the model, normally about 100-to 115-pounds per square inch pressure unit (PSI).
5. Set the PSI
- Using the air control valve to adjust the full PSI of your handheld air compressor. This should be focused on the instrument you’re trying to use.
- You can need to change the air pressure a few times before you hit the recommended air pressure for a particular instrument.
6. Link your air hose
- Connect the handheld air compressor to the air hose.
- Be sure you have ample hose to enter your work area safely.
- Depending on the type of the air compressor, you can need to wrap the threaded end of the hose with PTFE tape (also known as thread seal tape) before threading the hose to the compressor fitting.
- To tighten the hose in place, use an adjustable wrench.
7. Link your desired tool
- Attach the instrument you’re dealing with to the other end of the air hose.
- Push the safety collar back on the hose and mount it to the air intake valve on the hose.
- Release the collar to lock the link on the spot.
- Remember that you’re going to need to take the hose collar back when it’s time to detach the tool.
8. Remove extra moisture
- Remove moisture from your portable air compressor periodically after use. Checking your owner’s manual is essential here, but most models require you to remove the drain valve located on the bottom of the tank using a wrench.
- After the water has drained, you can replace the valve for storage
