- Oil-free scroll compressor: Due to the number of moving parts and metal-on-metal applications inside air compressors, the use of oil is typically needed to provide sufficient lubrication. Oil-free scroll compressors do not need constant lubrication and are the ideal tools for many clean installations. There are also other types of oil-free compressors, but this is a common one.
